What are attachments?

Definition and function of attachments

Attachments are small tooth-colored, almost invisible buttons, which are additionally applied to the teeth with transparent aligners during a tooth correction.

Attachments have different functions.

  • First of all, they improve the hold (retention) of aligners. In order to develop full functionality, aligners must be fully seated on the teeth. With the additional attachments, the aligners snap onto the teeth and therefore always sit correctly. The aligners are designed so that the attachments fit exactly into the bulges of the aligners.
  • The second function of the attachments is to improve the displacement of individual teeth. Attachments can be used to change the shape of the tooth and thus create more surface area/lever for the functioning of the aligners.

ForYouFirst often uses attachments when correcting teeth with aligners (Smiletogo), as the results are proven to be better. While the use of attachments is an additional effort for the dentist, ForYouFirst likes to do it to make sure that the clients can be sure of your correction. Often ForYouFirst competitors do not offer attachments. Whether attachments are needed is decided by the dentist at the planning stage.

Disadvantages of attachments

Attachments do not harm the teeth. They remain on the teeth for the duration of the treatment and are carefully removed again at the end so that no residues remain. Both the application and removal of the attachments is absolutely painless for the patient.
